Midday
Midday images are perfect for full-energy, full-light, high-contrast images. However, this sets a certain tone that does not always match up with the desired mood of the images, especially romantic ones, but it definitely has its place for the right concepts!
On longer sessions, like Novella, or during a wedding/elopement, we will be sure to have some images with this tone. However, for the most variety and creative freedom, it is ideal to photograph closer to Sunrise or Sunset.
This is why my availability is set around these times.
So, why would you choose one or the other?
Sunrise or Sunset?
Sunrise
Sunrise sessions are perfect for many reasons, especially for urban environments. They are not perfect for one main reason, which we'll get to.
Feeling shy? Aiming for minimalistic images?
Nobody is around.
No traffic, strangers in your shots, or nosy gawkers.
The world is yours and you still have the entire day ahead of you.
The downer?
Early alarms and "fake it till you make it" level of energy. Some desired location options might be closed for access.
Verdict: I'd still classify this option as "totally worth it".
Sunrise sessions hurt most around summer solstice, as the sun rises earliest on June 21st. Thereafter, sunrises happen later as the calendar gets further from this date.
Sunset
Sunsets fit better for most people's lifestyles and energy levels, plus, there may be more "open" opportunities (urban wise) to access certain locations.
However, since sunset happens during most people's waking hours, you need to be prepared for additional obstacles such as traffic, onlookers, and waiting for strangers to exit your shots.
With more people around, we may need to wait for "our turn" to use certain spaces as well.
Availability
You have six opportunities a week to pencil yourself into my calendar for your Narrative or Novella session.
I keep my "shoot days" from Thursday to Saturday, most weeks. Please reach out if you need an exception and I will try to work it into my calendar.
