How to Prepare for a Strategy-Based Content Session
Does your branding library actually move the business forward? Or are you scrolling through gorgeous, aimless images that are beautiful but... missing direction?
A strategy session fixes that by mapping your visuals directly to your marketing goals, so you’re not guessing what to post next month.
Here are some things to think about as we strategize your upcoming content session:
1. Define your immediate priorities
Ask yourself:
- What’s my #1 business goal for the next 90 days?
- Which products, services, or offers do I want people to remember?
- What’s actually working right now in my marketing?
- Where are there gaps in my content versus my offerings?
These answers will tell us what type of visuals will have the most impact — and keep us from shooting content that never gets used.
Identifying gaps in your current content flow will feed your audience what they crave in whichever stage they're at: awareness, consideration, or commitment.
2. Know your platforms
Your Instagram feed, website, email campaigns, and printed materials all require different dimensions, styles, and tones.
Tell me:
- Where will these images live?
- Do you need vertical crops for Reels? Wide shots for your homepage?
- Will you use them for paid ads?
3. Plan your people + props
If you have a team, decide who’s comfortable being on camera.
Bring the tools of your trade — products, laptop, tools, decor, ingredients, whatever makes sense for your brand.
If you want lifestyle shots, think about locations that fit your brand identity.
TELL ME:
- Who is the face of your brand?
- What are the visual anchors that represent you, your business or product?
- What symbols or imagery tie a recognizable thread to your personal brand?
4. Bring variety into your wardrobe & setting
More outfit or setting changes = more usable content.
Even a simple change like swapping your jacket, rearranging props, or moving to a different corner of the location can double your content mileage.
Color theory and brand personality will come into planning your wardrobe.
TELL ME:
- What mood or theme are you hoping to achieve?
- What do you want to trigger in your viewer?
- How many content ideas or campaigns do you hope to create content for in the next 90 days?
5. Trust the process
This isn’t a headshot marathon. I’ll be looking for movement, expressions, and moments that show you doing your work.
The strategy session means I’ll already know what shots matter most, so you can just focus on showing up as yourself.
Pro tip:
If you skip the strategy step, you’ll still get gorgeous photos... but they might not serve your goals.
The strategy session is where we figure out how to create content that actually works for you. On site, on search, on social.
Next step: Once you book, I’ll send you an email with a simple questionnaire, and book our strategy call!
About Lumenali
I help creative small businesses in the Kingston area turn their brand story into visuals that work.
Most business owners don’t have the time—or desire—to figure out how to translate what they do into images that resonate.
That’s where I come in.
I bring together creative direction, UX-informed strategy, and cinematic photography to create visuals that connect with the right clients, elevate your presence, and support your business where it matters most: your website, proposals, client experience, and marketing.
Every session is designed with purpose. I analyze what your brand needs, identify where visuals can make the biggest impact, and handle all the planning behind the scenes. You show up, and leave with a cohesive, professional gallery that doesn’t just look good—it works for you long after the shoot is over.
